Red Lentil Recipe – Sabut Masoor

  • 250 gms ‏Sabut masoor
  • 1.5 litre ‏Water
  • 1/2 TBS ‏Garlic crushed
  • 1/2 TBS ‏Garlic crushed
  • 1 TBS ‏Salt
  • 1 TBS ‏Red peppers
  • 1 tsp ‏Turmeric powder
  • ‏Fresh parsley for garnishing

For Topping/ Tadka:

  • 1/2 cup ‏Oil or Ghee
  • 1/2 TBS ‏Garlic
  • 1/2 TBS ‏Ginger
  • 2 cut in pieces ‏Green chilies


  1. Wash and sabut masoor.
  2. Add water, sabut masoor, ginger, garlic, salt, peppers and turmeric powder in a pressure cooker and cook for 30 minutes. (Start noting the time when pressure cooker start giving its particular sound) By this time masoor are tender and fully cooked.
  3. Dry out any excessive water.
  4. For tadka, heat oil in a pan and fry garlic till its fragrant. Add ginger and fry for 2 minutes, add green chilies, fry for 2 minutes and pour this to the cooked masoor. Stir well till all mixed.
  5. Dish it out, garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot with chapattis.
