Kunafa is an elegant and stylish Arabian dessert with a wonderful combination of vermicelli and nuts.
- 500 g Vermicelli
- 135 g butter (melted)
- 1/3 cup walnut (chopped)
- 1/3 cup almond (chopped)
- 1/4 cup Raisin
- 1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon powder
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 cup water
Pre heat oven at 180 C and grease the sides and bottom of an oven proof dish.
Mix all chopped nuts in a bowl.
In a large bowl, break vermicelli by your hands and mix it up with melted butter.
Add half of the vermicelli in a grease dish, press it with your hands so that a firm base is formed. Add the chopped nuts over it and then sprinkle cinnamon powder. Now add the remaining of the vermicelli and do not forget to press it again.
Place the kunafa dish in pre-heated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden and crispy.
Mean while in a sauce pan add water and sugar. Cook on medium heat until thicken. Add lemon juice and stir together . Remove from heat and let it cool down
Pour this syrup all over on top of hot kunafa.
Leave it for 10 minutes, cut into slices and serve with your afternoon tea. ENJOY!
