A tasty and simple to prepare starter is deep fried anchovies. Anchovies first seasoned with salt and black pepper and then before frying coated with corn flour…. it is just incredibly tasty. It is also called hamsi tava in turkey and is also very popular in Spain.

Anchovies are high in protein and low in calories.They are a good source of Calcium, iron, vitamin A, vitamin B-6 and vitamin E.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg ‏Fresh Anchovies
  • 1 teaspoon ‏salt
  • 2 cups ‏corn flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ‏black pepper (optional)
  • ‏vegetable oil for frying
  • ‏lemon slices for garnishing

Directions:

  1. Remove anchovies guts and heads because heads absorb too much oil.Wash them with cold water and drain.

  2. Heat oil in a wok.

  3. In a bowl add anchovies and season with salt and black pepper.

  4. Coat anchovies with corn flour by holding them from tail. Shake to remove the excess cornflour.

  5. Fry coated anchovies in hot oil for 3 to 4 minutes or until golden and crispy. Take out the fried anchovies on a paper towel so that the excess oil is absorbed by the towel.

  6. Repeat the procedure and fry the rest of the anchovies.

  7. Serve with lemon slices and ENJOY!
