Banana Fritters / Pisang Goreng

For an extra kick of flavor serve these Indonesian banana fritters with ice cream or with a side of coconut cream.


  • 4 ‏ripe banana (peeled)

For Batter

  • 4 tablespoons ‏rice flour
  • 1 teaspoon ‏baking powder
  • 1 ‏egg (beaten)
  • As required ‏cold water for making batter
  • A pinch of ‏salt
  • 2 tablespoons ‏honey (optional)
  • 1/2 cup ‏flour
  • 1 cup ‏oil for frying


  1. First cut the bananas lengthwise and then into four pieces or in thick round slices.

  2. In a large bowl add flour, rice flour, salt, baking powder and egg. Slowly add cold water and mix with whisk until a smooth batter is formed

  3. Heat oil in a large pan. Dip banana pieces or slices into batter and deep fry on medium heat until crispy and golden from both sides.

  4. Take out the banana slices on paper towel so that the excess oil is absorbed by the towel

  5. Transfer the slices to serving plate and drizzle some honey and serve. Enjoy!
