Surprise your friends and family with this homemade special baklava dessert that goes perfect with a cup of coffee or tea.
- 1/2 kg Puff Pastry dough
- Pistachios/walnuts for garnishing
- 1 1/4 cup Almonds (blanched & chopped)
- 1 1/4 cup Pistachios (finely chopped)
- 200 gm Butter (melted)
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon (ground)
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 cups Walnuts (finely chopped)
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 350 gm sugar
Pre-heat oven at 180 C or 350 F and grease pyrex dish or oven proof dish.
In a large bowl add walnuts, almonds, pistachios, sugar and cinnamon. Mix well.
Divide puff pastry into 4 equal portions. On a floured surface roll out all the portions and set aside.
Place one roll puff pastry in a dish and brush the top of the sheet with butter. Add the filling mixture and spread it all over with the help of spoon.
Place the second pastry sheet on the top of filling and repeat the above step until the sheets are finished. Note: Do not forget to brush each sheet with butter
With the help of sharp knife make a criss cross pattern on the sheets. Bake in a pre-heated oven for 30 to 40 minutes until light golden on top.
Mean while in a saucepan add water, sugar, lemon juice and honey. Place the sauce pan over high heat.
When it starts boiling reduce the heat and simmer until a thick sauce is formed Remove from heat and set aside.
When baklava is ready, slowly pour cooled syrup all over the baklava. Keep aside till syrup is absorbed by baklava dessert. Allow it to cool down for at least 2 hours.
Garnish with walnuts and serve with afternoon tea. ENJOY!
